Hey Yeah

on 25 November 2008

I managed to post twice in a fortnight. What is going on here.

I honestly don’t have much to say. I have been working mainly.

I finally got Fallout 3 finished. I didn’t manage to do everything, but eventually boredom and the desire to do something else led me to finish of the main quest, which was really really short.

The game is pretty great though. I could warble on about all the great stuff in the game two things. First, your choices in the game actually seem to make a difference and second the game is so damn immersive.  It really sucks you in to (a pretty disturbing) post apocalyptic word.

My only real beef is there is a lot of content there that hasn’t really been properly exploited. Maybe in the inevitable expansion.

Surely not

on 11 November 2008

Oh, by the way, has anyone noticed the news that Holden are planning on reducing power in the next Commodore.

According to their statement they are going to drop power output by 5 kw (to 170) to improve fuel economy. Now I know I'm not the only person in Australia and they I may not speak for everyone, but isn't the point of owning a big Aussie six to have shit loads of power on tap?

Granted 5 kw's isnt a massive amount of stonk, but then the saving isn't massive either, $89.50 a year apparently. This seems a bit like throwing the baby out with the bath water. Dropping power is silly, people like more power, it's fun and makes them feel more important. Second the saving isn't all that dramatic, I can't bring myself to believe that there are a bunch of people out there thiking about buying a Commadore thinking "If the running costs were just ninety bucks a year less, I would have one of those".

Now obviously this is in response to the recent increase in oil (and thus petrol) prices. But given the worldwide downturn that is currently happening, demand 9and thus prices) is likely to flop in the mid term and fuel economy will be back to being and interesting, yet pointless, number on a spec list.

The real kicker though is Ford's Falcon. It's old clunker of a straight six manages to stomp the Commadore on fuel economy, and pump out 190 kw's.

So now Commadore are even further behind on power and still arent as good on economy as Falcon. So why does anyone by them?

Lets be controversial, shall we

on 06 November 2008

I can't say I have ever been one to shy from controversy, so it's no real suprise that I am going seeking it now. I really cant help myself.

Anyway, it appears last week was the week for black people. They had a cracker.

Obama romped home in a Democrat landslide to steal the American presidency from a genuine American war hero and Lewis 'Hambone' Hamilton managed to steal the Formula 1 world championship from the boys in red. Both were firsts for blacks so it is a pretty big deal. Granted, congratulating the chaps isn't all that controversial.

The fact this I don't think either of them won their respective battles might be.

They both just happened to win because their opponents fucked up and handed them an easy victory.

Lets look at Hambone. But for pit lane stuff ups and (simple unforgivable) strategic gaffs Ferrari would have had both drivers above Lewis for Champion. If that isn't enough for you, Lewis also had to have Glock make an ass of himself on the final lap of the final GP to bank the win. Sure the kid is reasonably quick. But if it wasn't for everyone else handing it too him he wouldn't have won.

On too Obama. McCain had the easiest election in history to win. White, evangelical, maverick war hero versus black kid for President of America. How hard could it be. He certainly made it look hard though.

He lost his message early and took to the last few days of the campaign to get it back. He missed a whole bunch of awesome opportunities to slag Obama and worst of all he appointed that Alaskan fool, Palin, as his running mate. If you are going to appoint a chick as your running mate at least make sure she is smart or super hot and willing to take her clothes off for the camera. Not neither!

Anyway, all is said and done now and Obama has promised a lot and unfortunately for him, has no money to spend to achieve any of it. I see it being a short and dramatic failure of a presidency. Though I could be wrong. Its happened once before.

Cheers
