Dust

on 26 September 2009

Well it's dusty again and still no apocalypse or mutants. I wonder how long this can keep up before central Australia runs out of dust?

Thursday Randoms

on 03 September 2009

Wow, Thursday already. That came up fast. It probably didn't help that I spent pretty much all of yesterday asleep. I had a wonderfully agressive migraine so decided to just amp up on drugs and sleep through the agony, a strategy that served me well.

I have been spending sometine lately trying to find a good compact camera. While I love my 50D and all those exciting, expensive lenses, they aren't exactly practicle to lug around with you day in, day out, just in case you spot something awesome. Unfortunately, nothing on the market really got me excited and I had almost given in and just picked up a Canon G10 when Panaspnic and Olympus came out and answered my dreams.

Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-GF1. A sweet looking little 12.MP mini-DSLR with HD video (720p).

Olympus's options is the PEN E-P1 has similar specs, though will do 6400ISO and is about half an inch smaller.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Olympus cause it's smaller, prettier, cheaper and has better specs. In short, unless the Panasonic reviews a massive load better, no one in their right mind will buy it.

Enough about cameras then. How neat is this retro 911 remake. The swallow tail and the subtle racing stripes are just brilliant. Pity it's a $300k ask.

My current feel on Snow Leopard is that it is more fast, more stable and much cooler than Leopard. All good things that confirm my switch to Apple. I just wish they would release a decent workstation class laptop. Something with a quad, a quadro and dual hdds for some redundant raid. Given how popular Apple is with the graphics and movie set I can see it selling well enough. Give it an 18 inch screen and keep it around 5kgs and your set.

Umm, random enough then?

Sunday Random

on 30 August 2009

Formula One is currently on in Spa this weekend and WTF is happening!

Force India on poll. Wha?!? Huh?? Umm?? He isn't even particularly light. I don't know what to say. Congrats to Force India I guess and for shame to the rest of the teams. Will be interesting to see how the race pans out.

I tried one of Macca's new Angus Beef burger. It is, completely unsurprisingly, quite horrible.
I'm not sure in what reality the bun would be classed as 'Sour Dough'. The 'Angus Beef' is as far as I could tell, is just a thinker normal Mac pattie. in general it was pretty much the same class of horrible as all other Macca's food. I did like the fact that is was a square. I'm not a fan at all of the round burger. Sandwiches are square for a reason, cause fuckin square are better.

Today I bought a bread maker. I like bread, but all the store bought stuff has nutritional issues imo. Making my own bread by hand was great for a week or so but really quickly got boring. I really didn't expect the machine to work but it does. How neat. Now to perfect my recipe.

I am a massive fan of energy drinks. I shouldn't be because they are BAD, but I am. So I am on a mission to taste as many as I can get my hands on. I will progressively post review of what I try.

A trip to Mexico

on 27 August 2009

Today I took a work trip to Mexico. For the uninitiated Mexico is the colloquial name for Melbourne, south of the border.

It was purely a work thing, but any excuse to get out of the office is good and fun.

I still managed to take a picture of some kind of Church like construction that was quite pretty.

Qantas managed to have both flights run late, a record that rivals City Rails fabulous record. Still, sending planes 750k's across a country is probably a slightly harder job than sending a train 20k's across a city.

So in other news... Snow Leopard is out tomorrow and everyone loves cute little snow leopards. While it doesn't look particularly interesting, or even exciting, it is only $39 so why the hell not.

It seems the 'ring's road car record got smashed again. I'm not sure how much of a 'road' car a Radical SR8LM is. I can't see anyone running the kids to school or picking up groceries form the shops in one. Anyway, the best point is this awesome, commented video of the lap. Seriously worth a watch.

Cheers

Work, Suit Shopping, Cheesecake and Pain

on 06 August 2009

There we go, I've sucessfully summed up my day in four words. Let's work through them.

Work has been overwhelming busy for the last few weeks which is a bit of a double edged sword. I like feeling overwhelmed and busy, but it also wears me put quite a bit and limits both my fun time and the number of blog posts I make.

Next, suit shopping. Tomorrow night is my workplaces first birthday function. This function is, for reasons I am unable to fathom, a formal event. Now I am not a particularly formal guy and obviously don't own any formal atire. Ergo, suit shopping.

Nik made cheesecake. I ate some and it was awesome.

Pain, well. A lot of the above really, well, excluding the cheesecake.

Cheers

Wow. Another day.

on 04 August 2009

Indeed, today was, predictably, another day, just like the one before and inevitably, like the one after.

Tomorrow my new iPhone 3GS is due, which should be nice. Living life with only an iTouch and constantly having to hunt for wifi spots is just not that fun. I'm looking forward to it.

An excuse to spend more money on apps is always good too.

Rambling

on 21 July 2009

So another fabulous week kicks of with less sleep than I would like. I seem to be pretty awesome at not getting enough sleep. Call it a special skill. My weekend was pretty awesome. Saturday saw a another round of golf and I improved again shootin a positivley brilliant 29 over. Not brilliant, I know, but a 5 shot improvement over my last attempt.

Anyway, to the lack of sleep, i have know excuse really. My usual excuse for staying up far past when I should is useully games, an F1 race or recently, the Tour. None of that was my issue last night.
My latest quest is to learn some mac programing using X-code and objective-C,both new things for me. Obviously this takes quite a pack of time and is putting me a bit behind with everything else. Ultimately I would like to put together some awesome mac+iPhone apps that provide time management and ideas management. I also wouldn't mind bashing together a few games. My first project is going to be a simple recreation of space invaders (with a twist). I will be keeping it relitivley simple though.

Not sure how long it will take me to put that together. Though with CA starting soon I Am going to start getting really short on time.

Btw, tapping this out on an iTouch (I was too slow to pick up a 3gs on launch) and am still waiting for it.
It is suprisingly easy and intuitive to tap out txt on this thing. Probably slighly easier than the blackberry's qwerty keyboard, but you can't type by feel. I'll call it a draw. The apple devices score a definite win though with being able to flip them on there side for bigger keys and more typing space.

That is probably enough rambling for now!

Cheers

On ya Webber

on 12 July 2009

Holy shit. WEBBER WON SOMETHING!!!

I seriously can't believe it. Right up to the checkered flag I was hanging out for his engine to fail, or the gearbox to explode, or a piano to attack him. The more ridiculous the fuck-up the more likely it seems to be with Webber.

Anyway, seems he has managed to exorcise his demons (or made a pact with one) and finally broken the drought.

About time!

Golf, Cycling and Formula 1

Today is a good day.

Got up this morning and headed out to smack some golf balls around. I was swinging brand new clubs and had a quite painful shoulder so it wasn't the best round I have ever had.

Shot 20 over out and 14 over in. Picked up 26k steps too :)

Today's stage of the tour is the second serious mountain stage. However, given the long flat run after the big hill I don't think there will be any kind of serious attack. There's just too much time for the pelaton to reel them back in.

There is also some formula one on. Webber somehow got pole and with 10 laps to go is in front. I assume his car will blow up soon (or Vettle will take him out).

Cheers
